Open the public sourceJoint soreness in Arizona
Learn why a joint feels stiff or sore, when soreness needs care, and which questions belong at a visit.
Your joint may feel stiff when you rise and start the morning. The soreness may ease with movement, yet return during your usual tasks.
Soreness can return after stairs, a long walk, or time in one chair. Swelling or catching can make each movement feel less sure than usual.
These symptoms don't name the cause, even when they feel familiar. They mean the joint deserves an exam when they keep returning.
Cartilage is the slick coating over bone ends inside your joint. Like a smooth floor, it helps the bones glide as they carry you.
Cartilage in one defined area can tear or wear down. Arthritis spreads the wear over more of the joint instead.
Both problems may cause soreness, stiffness, swelling, or catching during ordinary daily tasks. Your exam and earlier scans help separate one cause from another.
A scan finding may not explain the movement that hurts. The answer must connect your symptoms with the exam and scan findings.
Ease back for a few days from activity that causes soreness afterward. Don't stop all movement unless your own doctor tells you to.
Strength work and rehabilitation can support the joint during daily tasks. Your doctor or nurse can choose movement that suits your daily needs.
Avoid doing so much that the soreness keeps returning afterward. The main goal is easier movement without repeatedly stirring up the joint.
Get care promptly if the joint locks, swells fast, or won't support you. Urgent care is also needed for joint heat, swelling, and fever.
For lasting soreness, tell your own doctor how it started and which movements worsen it. Take earlier notes or scans from your last visit if available.
QC Kinetix offers regenerative treatments, meaning non-surgical joint procedures using material from your blood, through licensed clinic staff. The visit still begins by finding the likely source of your soreness.

Open the public sourceThe Cochrane review of surgical interventions for isolated cartilage defects of the knee in adults found only three randomised trials, all comparing mosaicplasty with microfracture, reporting 133 participants in total with a mean defect area of 2.8 cm2. It found NO randomised trials of allograft transplantation or drilling at all, judged every trial at high or unclear risk of bias, and rated the quality of evidence very low for every outcome.
Gracitelli GC, et al. — Surgical interventions (microfracture, drilling, mosaicplasty, and allograft transplantation) for treating isolated cartilage defects of the knee in adults.. Cochrane Database Syst Rev, 2016.
A prospective cohort of 110 patients treated with microfracture for a focal chondral defect was evaluated at a median of 12 years. Scores improved significantly from baseline and did not differ from the 5-year results, but 43 patients had needed further knee surgery including seven knee replacements, 50 had a poor long-term outcome, and normal knee function was generally not achieved. The authors called for caution in recommending microfracture.
Solheim E, et al. — Results at 10-14 years after microfracture treatment of articular cartilage defects in the knee.. Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc, 2016.
Among 321 consecutive patients treated with autologous chondrocyte implantation (522 defects), defects previously treated with a marrow stimulation technique failed at 26% versus 8% in defects with no prior penetration of the subchondral bone - a threefold higher failure rate. The order in which procedures are done changes what the later ones can achieve.
